Can anyone dispute the sheer joy football brings to all corners of the Globe? As a young man out travelling I well remember arriving out in the outbacks of Mexico and playing football barefoot with a group of ecstatic children. They were so excited about meeting someone who had seen Manchester United play live!

Just a couple of years before I saw a similiarly enthusiastic group of young footballers playing out their dreams on a grassless football pitch in the middle of Banjul, Gambia, waiting for some scout to whisk them off to the big games and big money of Europe.

There is no game with such global appeal. As the World Cup fast approaches in South Africa, let us celebrate the greatest game on Earth for the power it has to ignite the imaginations of billions and particularly the youth of our planet.
And it all began with a group of schoolboys in Rugby, England.
So let us bring the beautiful game back home to England in 2018 and host the greatest feast of football ever.
